Inisiatif ini bertujuan untuk meningkatkan penggunaan pengangkutan awam dan seterusnya memupuk minat orang ramai untuk menggunakan pengangkutan awam berbanding pengangkutan mod sendiri.<\/p><p>SBST mengguna konsep rangkaian \u2018hub and spoke\u2019 yang lebih efisen untuk orang ramai tiba ke destinasi dan operasinya dipantau melalui sistem elektronik dan moden.<\/p><p>Pada waktu ini, sejumlah peruntukan sebanyak RM17.6 juta setahun telah disediakan bagi pelaksanaan Fasa-1 SBST di Bandaraya Kota Kinabalu yang melibatkan laluan dari KKIA hingga Manggatal (4,630,112.3 km setahun). Dibawah kerangka SBST ini, bas-bas yang akan beroperasi terdiri daripada bas bersaiz mini yang mampu memuatkan sebanyak 30 orang penumpang. Bas hendaklah dilengkapi dengan paparan LED, CCTV, E-Ticket Machine (ETM), GPS, dan OBU.
